Chiltern Film Society - January 2019

It’s A Classic!

Classic films are always a matter of opinion - what makes a classic? How old does a great film have to be before it becomes one? So when we choose our Classic Film, it’s always with a little trepidation…. Sometimes it is a movie everyone has heard of - but this year’s choice? Well, I for one, had never heard of it!

The Firemen’s Ball is a screwball comedy made in 1967 and we’re showing it at The Elgiva on Wednesday 16th - it was banned by the Communist regime of Czechoslovakia ‘permanently and forever’ … it was directed by Milos Forman - his final film before his move to the USA. He went on to make other classics such as One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Amadeus and Man On The Moon.

We chose a still from The Firemen’s Ball to appear on our flyers this Season:

Our Members, this year, will receive bonus films and events at The Elgiva. For a superb Concession Rate of £3.50 - the first film is a Danish thriller The Guilty - on Thursday 24th January (contact the theatre for details).
