Chiltern Film Society - August 2020

August on film and CFS update

I was asked if there are any films set in the month of August… It took some time, but I thought of a few!

Probably the most famous is the comedy drama August: Osage County (2013)

starring a gorgeous ensemble cast - Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts lead, with Ewan McGregor and Benedict Cumberbatch popping up, too! The film was nominated for two Oscars and was based on a play by Tracy Letts, who adapted the script for the screen herself.

Others include the musical drama August Rush (2007) with Robin Williams, the Josh Hartnett drama August (2008) with David Bowie in the cast and a great Scandi-drama Oslo August 31st (2011).

All worth watching this month for different reasons!

NEWS!!!

CFS are planning our 52nd Season. We have compressed a huge list of titles into 15 dates that - at the time of writing - looks like launching at The Elgiva on September 9th.

Film Societies around the country have had to reassess how they show films within safety guidelines and we are working closely with the theatre in order to provide the most interesting international films around. Programmes for our 2020-2021 Season will be popping up around the Chiltern area as you read this. Do look out for them.

Bait and The Lighthouse are two of the movies in the line-up. We hope Members find inspiration from the global films - coming from Macedonia to Saudi Arabia, Palestine to the UK. There will be something for everyone...

Whatever you do this month, stay safe and enjoy your films!

Paul Vates – CFS Chairman.
