Chiltern Film Society - September 2020
We declare our 52nd Season well and truly - OPEN!
Who would have thought - after suddenly curtailing our previous Season - that we would be able to continue? But continue we do, with the launch of our new programme of films from all around the world.
With smaller numbers allowed in the auditorium of The Elgiva, we have had to restrict the number of Members that we have - but we have launched a Matinee Membership that starts at 1.30pm, as well as our usual 8pm screening! So do check our website if you fancy joining us.
It all begins on Wednesday 9th September with the award-winning American/Chinese film The Farewell - a comedy drama in which a wedding is hastily arranged so that a family’s grandmother can attend before she dies (two things she knows nothing about!). The website RogerEbert.com said ‘The entire film is pretty perfect.’
We know it’s odd to start with a farewell film, but that’s the unconventional Society we are! We follow this on Wednesday 23rd with a British film - Bait. This was scheduled for last April and we decided to keep it for this Season because it was the Members’ Choice.
Directed by newcomer Mark Jenkin, the film was shot in and around Penzance for an authentic atmosphere of fishing and the sea.
The film won a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut. Can’t wait to catch this (see what I did there?!?) on the big screen…
Whatever you do this month, stay safe and enjoy your films!
